What is Bates Numbering?

Bates numbering is a method of indexing legal documents for easy identification and retrieval. Each page is assigned a unique identifier that typically includes a prefix, a sequential number, and sometimes a suffix.

How to Use This Tool:

  1. Upload one or more PDF documents using the drag & drop area or the "Select PDF Files" button.
  2. Configure your Bates numbering format:
    • Prefix: Add text that appears before the number (e.g., "CASE-2023-").
    • Starting Number: Set the first number in the sequence.
    • Number of Digits: Choose how many digits to use (e.g., 6 digits would show as "000001").
    • Suffix: Add text that appears after the number (e.g., "-CONF" for confidential).
  3. Customize the appearance:
    • Position: Choose where the Bates number appears on each page.
    • Font Size: Select the size of the Bates number text.
    • Font Color: Choose the color of the Bates number.
    • Bold: Make the Bates number bold for better visibility.
  4. Click "Apply Bates Numbering" to process your documents.
  5. Download your Bates-numbered PDFs individually or as a ZIP file.
