Privacy Policy for SmileyPDF
Last Updated: June 11, 2024
Welcome to SmileyPDF ("us", "we", or "our"). We operate the website located at smileypdf.com (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the Service, you agree to the limited collection and use of information as described in this policy. We prioritize your privacy, especially regarding the files you process.
File Processing and Security
The core principle of SmileyPDF is user privacy through client-side processing for all our primary PDF manipulation tools (Editor, Merger, Rotator, Image to PDF, PDF to JPG, basic PDF to Word, standard Text Extractor, etc.).
What this means: When you use these tools, your uploaded files (PDFs, images) are processed directly within your web browser on your own computer. They are NEVER uploaded to, stored on, or transferred to our servers or any external server for the main processing tasks. Your documents remain in your control.
The only exception might be features explicitly requiring server interaction (which we aim to minimize), like advanced OCR or certain conversion types if ever introduced and clearly indicated. For current tools listed, processing is local. Once you close your browser tab, the data is typically cleared by your browser.
Information Collection and Use
We do not require user registration or collect Personally Identifiable Information (PII) like your name, email address, physical address, or phone number for using our free tools.
We automatically collect limited non-personally identifiable information common for website operation and analytics:
- Log Data: Standard server logs may include anonymized IP addresses (e.g., with the last octet removed), browser type/version, operating system, pages visited on our Service, time/date of visit, time spent on pages, referring URLs, and error logs. This helps us analyze usage patterns, troubleshoot issues, and improve the Service.
- Cookies & Similar Technologies: We use essential cookies for basic website functionality. We also use cookies for analytics (e.g., Google Analytics) to understand how users interact with the site (aggregated, non-identifying data) and for advertising purposes (see below). You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies might affect site functionality.
Advertising and Third-Party Services
To keep our tools free, we display advertisements served by third-party networks, primarily Google AdSense. These partners may use cookies and similar technologies to collect non-personal data about your visits to this and other websites to provide relevant ads. This data typically includes browsing patterns, general location (derived from IP, but not precise), and device type, but does not include your name, email, or specific file content.
- Google uses cookies (like the DART cookie) to serve ads based on user visits. Users can opt-out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings: adssettings.google.com.
- For more details on Google's data usage: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
We also use Google Analytics to understand website traffic. This data is aggregated and anonymized. You can opt-out of Google Analytics using their browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Use of Collected Data
The limited, non-personal data we collect is used to:
- Maintain and operate the Service.
- Improve user experience and add new features.
- Monitor usage trends and identify popular tools.
- Diagnose and fix technical problems.
- Display advertising to support the free service.
Links to Other Sites
Our Service may contain links to external websites not operated by us. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these third-party sites. Please review their privacy policies.
Data Security
While no online transmission is 100% secure, we prioritize security. As stated, your files are processed client-side. For the limited non-personal data we collect (analytics, logs), we use standard practices, but cannot guarantee absolute security against all threats.
Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed at individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. We will notify users of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Please review this page periodically.
